When Your Summer Cocktail Inspires Your Outfit
Summer… hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, music gets louder, nights get longer and the drinks get colder. Did someone say drinks?! We’re highlighting our favorite 2 ingredient summer coolers! Not only do these libations cool us off but they inspire our summer fashion. Dress like your drink of choice, how chic.
The Paloma
Mexico’s most beloved cocktail is made by mixing equal parts (1/4 cup) of tequila with grapefruit-flavored soda (oh hello Fresca). Serve it on the rocks with a lime wedge – salted rim optional, white on white mandatory.
The Kalimotxo
We love this fun twist on sangria! Made with equal parts dry red wine and Coca-Cola poured over ice and dressed up with a squeeze of lemon or orange it’s sure to be a conversation starter! Just drop that it’s a favorite in Basque culture and you’ll be a hit!… but first google Basque culture ;)
The Greyhound
Mix 2 ounces of vodka and 5 ounces of grapefruit juice over ice with a sprig of rosemary and you have perhaps the most dapper drink reminiscent of the Mad Men era.
The Whiskey Ginger
An easy favorite hitting those spicy notes, the classic drink is made with rye whiskey and ginger ale. Simply fill a highball glass with ice and add 1.5 ounces of whiskey then top off with ginger ale.
The Mexican Mule…the Moscow Mule’s cooler cousin
We’re not saying we just order this for the cool copper mug it comes in, but we’re not not saying that. If you’re looking for that icy cool refreshment while looking cool, this is your summer bff. A little ginger beer, a little tequila and a little fresh lime juice makes this guy the cool kid on the block.
The Rum & Coke
A good ole’ rum and Coke is a fuss-free cocktail that came onto the scene in the early 20th century. Serve it straight up <cue Paula Abdul> with a borrowed-from-the-boys look!
The Screwdriver
You know it, you love it, the screwdriver. Equal parts (1.5 oz) vodka and orange juice over ice and you have a refreshing cold one packed with vitamin c ;)
The Martini
Whether you like it dirty or straight up, this classic mix of gin and vermouth is a classic winner in any circle. We love the dirty twist, so break out that olive!
The Gimlet
The gimlet is a classic cocktail of gin and sweetened lime juice that dates back to the 20’s so yes, you guessed it, throw on some fringe.
The Pina Colada
Nothing screams summer more than pineapple and coconut juice topped with a splash of good white rum. Can you say “island vibes”?

Coming to you straight out of Venice, Italy, this classic 1930’s refresher is perfect for your summer patio party. We love a chilled prosecco partnered with your choice of fruit puree. While peach is the OG, we can’t help but swoon over newcomers mango and watermelon!

Bora Bora, French Polynesia
You’ve seen the pics… crystal clear waters, every shade of blue, water-suspended grass-roof bungalows, stairs that head directly from your abode into the turquoise sea, and picturesque lighting for the perfect honeymoon album…need we say more? Ok we will! Charter a helicopter to take you around Mount Otemanu, go snorkeling at Coral Gardens with the most vibrant, colorful fish, bike the island at a leisurely, lovingly pace, book a jet ski tour for a fun rush of adrenaline, and if you care to let loose a little more head to Bloody Mary’s restaurant/bar in Vaitape. So need we say it? Book it.
Santorini, Greece
A whitewashed cliff side city set against the Aegean Sea, Santorini may be one of the most picturesque landscapes in the world. While you’ll likely want to spend a great deal of your time on the beach (Kamari Beach is a must stop!), there is plenty to explore in Santorini! Take your tanned skin, throw on that flowy dress and explore the paths, alleys and stairwells of Oia and Fira! (Fun tip: walk down the stairs to the Old Port, grab a drink, then take the cable car back up!). Hop on that scooter and go explore the red and black sand beaches, check out Akrotiri to visit wineries and boutiques, and book a catamaran sunset cruise. Have we convinced you yet? Well, how about the fact that you can stay in a windmill… for real! The Windmills Suite at Golden Sunset Villas in Oia is pretty incredible with the perfect bird’s-eye view of the world famous Oia sunset. Bucket-list worthy.
Venice, Italy
Can you say “Amore”?! What says love more than a gondola ride through the Grand Canal as you sail past historical buildings? Swoon. A time old tradition that will forever mean romance, it shoots to the top of the list! One of our favorite insider tips is to set up a secret wine tour to discover the wine cellars only the locals know about… a heavy dose of chicchetti included, Saluti! And while you’re there, delight your eyes with masterpieces by the Venetian masters, indulge in gelato, and of course cruise (literally) over to the islands of Lido, Murano or Bruano!
Harbour Island, Bahamas
Tropical, check. Warm, crystal clear blue ocean water, check. Snorkeling, check. Tranquility, check. Pink sand beaches, what?! CHECK! It’s no wonder Harbour Island was ranked as one of the best beaches by Fodors, Frommers and The Travel Channel! Layer in the best restaurants the Bahamas has to offer and aqua blue golf carts as the choice mode of transportation, this island escape has us wanting to move up the wedding date. And the cherry on top? The Ocean View. No, not the ocean view (yes, it’s beyond spectacular!) but The Ocean View, the quaint hotel that prides itself as a second home to its guests. What ruled the runway? Flowing femininity, white, sheer, bold color and surprisingly a nod to black for the SS17 season. But it works! With sheer and flowy it’s BFF, black seamlessly fits into the spring/summer girl gang. She’s lighter, flirtier and a bit more fun. While go-with-the-flow spring was in the air, she stepped out alongside perfectly structured silhouettes and elegant couture details. Precision was another overriding theme. Every detail perfectly placed. Every ripple of flowing silhouette intentional. Tailoring, next level. It was truly a season that wowed and delighted. Then to top it all off, the looks walked from the runway straight into stores. Pure. Genius. He, along with designers Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger, have switched to the see-now-buy-now format.. the in-season runway show. And we love it. Nothing is worse than pining over fashions for 6 months. And we bet the wallets were wide open!
J. Mendel
Texture play, exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship made for some jaw-dropping moments at the Gilles Mendel show. His show is like a beautifully composed and executed orchestral arrangement, hitting all notes in the range and working harmoniously. It’s that song you never want to end. Each verse carrying you away. Each piece was so beautiful and unique yet somehow spoke as one. Magical.
Michael Kors Collection
Kors’ gave his signature feminine/masculine plot line a twist with a touch of the 80’s…. “they were women who were provocative, very flirty, but also in control.” Welp, we just want to marry that sentence. Kors certainly understands the duality of women and well, for that, we love him…. and his collection. He plays his signature dichotomy beautifully with elements of feminine flirty to raw power executed in upbeat colors.

Traditionally we’re not the pinky pink type but coming off it being our summer chiller of choice and with rosé gold always being a killer stand out, we’re saying BRING IT. Pretty, soft satin blouses or lace trimmed camisoles, satin slip dresses paired back to cashmere cardigans or leather jackets, or rosé gold jewelry off of monochromatic dressing (preferably all black, all grey or all white) all do it JUST RIGHT. Swipes card.

It’s business and party all in one… much like the mullet JK! Whether it be the oh-so-coveted off-the-shoulder style or the 70’s inspired tie blouse style with that deep v that adds that touch of sexy, the striped blouse is where it’s at. That OTS number has enough sex appeal so we love it played off ripped jeans and casual Adidas sneaks. Tuck that tie blouse style into white skinny jeans with nude strappy heels now and with high-waisted black skinnies and stiletto booties later. Gotta love a blouse with moves like that. Go girl!

Decoding Dress Codes for Every Wedding this Summer
It’s that time… Wedding Season! We all love it but we also know how hard it is to pick out the perfect dress to wear, the accessories, the shoes and ultimately to know what the heck that dress code means! To help you out, we’re going to decode it all and get you summer wedding ready!
White Tie
White Tie means it’s time to break out the crème de le crème…the ball gown. White Tie is definitely the most formal dress code and calls for an elegant floor length, knock-em-dead style gown partnered with killer strappy heels and a simple stud style earring. This is the event to bring that wow factor, it’s expected. Be fearless. And remember the best accessory to delight, your beautiful smile. Go get em!
Black Tie
Black Tie strongly suggests a beautiful floor-length style as well, but because it’s summer you can get away with lighter fabrics. Stick to solid colors in luxurious fabrications. Silk, chiffon, satin all translate beautifully into simple silhouettes for the desired drama of a Black Tie wedding. Throw on some statement earrings and the perfect small box clutch and you are set to make your entrance.
Formal/Black Tie Optional
Woo-hoo anything goes! Just kidding, kind-of. Technically you can wear a shorter, fancy frock or a long dress if you want to. If you’re excited to raise your hemline a little, be sure to select a more “special” dress with intricate detailing, texture or a more structured silhouette.
